As your state senator, I am committed to priorities of strengthening public education, supporting family wage jobs and local businesses, and improving both public safety and road safety. A quality education system provides opportunity for all and ensures Oregon’s economic growth. I will continue to make funding our schools a top priority. We must stabilize funding to public schools to reduce K-12 class sizes and restore days to the school year.
I will always fight for family-wage jobs and rural economic development. I voted to expand loans for small businesses and to increase job training opportunities. I oppose “outsourcing” Oregon jobs.
As a gun owner for 45 years, I am proud to have led the passage of the Oregon Firearms Safety Act to close the remaining loophole in Oregon’s 25-year-old background checks law for gun sales. This legislation prevents felons and individuals suffering acute mental illness crises from having easy access to guns. It also prevents internet gun sales without background checks.
In fighting for these priorities, it has been my honor to represent the residents of District 4, which encompasses a diverse and vibrant mix of urban, rural and college campus communities from Eugene to Sutherlin, Elkton to Oakridge. Other communities in District 4 include Blue River, Cottage Grove, Drain, Glide, Lowell, McKenzie Bridge, Oakland, Roseburg, Veneta, Vida, Westfir, and Yoncalla. With your support, I will continue to work hard to protect our state for current Oregonians and future generations, so that our kids can realize their goals and dreams.
